The solid Georgian defender has presumably given John Motson, David Pleat and co. many sleepless nights since arriving in England
The Georgian international was unsuccessful in trials at Arsenal and West Ham, but eventually found a club in Britain, signing for Dundee in March 2001 from hometown club FC Tbilisi.
Not the most agile of defenders, he is, however, tough and uncompromising, and he gained a growing reputation before joining Glasgow Rangers in June 2003 on a Bosman.
A regular in his first season at Ibrox, he fell out of favour and after a loan spell at Blackburn, he joined the club permanently for £500,000 in April 2006.
Khizanishvili has found it diffult to secure a regular place but his versatility, either as a centre-back, full-back or in a holding midfield role, makes him a valuable squad member.
