Useful squad player who turned in 11 goals in his debut season, can fill in several positions making him crucial to Rafa Benitez's plans
Israel’s national captain joined the Reds from West Ham in July 2007 for £4m. A skilful player who can operate across the middle as well as up front, Benayoun makes up for his small frame with a prodigious work-rate.
His football life started in Israel with Hapoel Be’er Sheva and Maccabi Haifa. Military service kept him at Haifa until he was 21, after which Benayoun moved to Racing Santander.
He enjoyed three successful seasons in La Liga before signing for West Ham in 2005. Rafa Benitez was impressed, and Benayoun repaid the Liverpool boss with 11 goals in his first Anfield term.
