Striker

Plucked from obscurity by Harry Redknapp 2003 Yakuba has gone to establish himself as one of the Premier League’s deadliest strikers

One of the Premier League’s most prolific goal-grabbers, Yakubu arrived at Goodison Park in summer 2007 from Middlesbrough for a club record £11.25 million, having greatly impressed David Moyes with his muscular showing for Portsmouth at Goodison Park in January 2005.

Though he can look a little languid at times, ‘Yak’ has explosive pace, ox-like strength and a goal record approaching one every other game in the top flight.

Scorer of a European hat-trick against Manchester United while a teenager with Maccabi Haifa, Yakubu undoubtedly has the talent to be one of the great modern goalscorers – but has he got the application?
