With the Nevillers out of the picture, he's done rather well for himself wherever required – for club or country
Plagued by injury and regularly down the pecking order behind Gary Neville, it’s a tribute to Wes Brown’s patience and ability that he’s been able to rack up more than 300 games for United. Brown’s solidity and versatility have allowed him to fill in across the back line since making his United debut in 1998.
He combined well in central defence with Rio Ferdinand in 2005/06, and Neville’s long-term injury in 2006 allowed the locally-born lad, who signed for United as a trainee, to enjoy a long run at right-back. He stepped up to the plate admirably for club and country.
