An imposing presence in City’s defence at 6ft 3 in, the Croatia international was the sixth in the flurry of signings that ushered in Sven-Goran Eriksson’s ultimately short-lived tenure at Eastlands.
His composed performances – he was part of the side that put paid to England’s hopes of Euro 2008 qualification – won him a lot of admirers in 2007/08 and he was also a mainstay of his country’s decent showing in the finals in Austria and Switzerland.
Moved south to Spurs in a deal reported to be in the region of £8.5 million on the last day of the summer 2008 transfer window after months of speculation surrounding his future at Eastlands.
Adaptable and certainly no slouch, he is comfortable at right-back or centre-half and has, on occasion, filled a midfield berth.
