Appearances can be deceptive. Though only 5ft 10in, the Australian international is one of the Premier League’s great aerial threats; a sign of the determination that saw him trek from Down Under to try his hand in England aged just 16.
Offered a deal by Millwall, he proved a huge favourite in seven years with the Lions – with whom he starred on the way to the 2004 FA Cup final.
He made the top-flight switch that summer with ease – scoring 12 goals in his first season, and though his 2007/08 campaign was blighted by injury, his goal tally was still in double figures and his ultra-combative streak makes him a talismanic figure.
