Having left Anfield in search of first-team football, Warnock has improved massively and moved to the cusp of the England set-up
An uncompromising defender, snappy in the tackle and with energy to burn, the former Liverpool trainee was tipped for a big future at Anfield having burst onto the scene during the 2004-05 season.
But he found John Arne Riise difficult to remove from the left-back spot and eventually joined Blackburn for £1.5m in January 2007.
Despite his lack of experience, he was called into Sven-Göran Eriksson’s England squad for the Wales/Northern Ireland double header in September 2005 and returned under Fabio Capello for the friendlies against the USA and Trinidad and Tobago in the summer of 2008.
