Tony Blair's favourite and named after an 'Avenger', Steed isn't your average French/Belgian footballer. Whatever that is...
Famously described by former Prime Minister Tony Blair as “one of my favourite players”, the Belgian-born midfielder had become a favourite among the punters at White Hart Lane.
Malbranque has been employing his combative style of midfield creativity since 1998 when, aged 18, he made his debut for Lyon.
But it was at Fulham where he established his reputation as a goalscoring midfielder, bagging 32 goals in 172 games and, eventually, a £2m move to Spurs in 2006.
While not quite reproducing his Cottagers form in N17, his nimble interplay and willingness to track back made him one of Juande Ramos’s most reliable players.
However despite this and the fact he played in 35 of Spurs' league matches in 2007/08, Malbranque was allowed to leave the club, with Roy Keane moving fastest to secure the Mouscron man's services.
