Probably one of the oldest goalkeepers still playing in the football league, but like a vintage car Royce keeps on rolling
Vastly experienced goalkeeper Royce originally joined the Gills on an emergency loan deal from QPR for the final three games of 2006/07, when the club were unable to field a fit net-minder.
Simon made his league debut for Southend back in 1996 and went on to make 147 league starts for the Shrimpers before appearing fleetingly for a plethora of clubs including Charlton, Leicester and Manchester City.
He had played in more than 70 games for QPR before arriving at the Priestfield Stadium on a permanent basis in August 2007.
Despite the Gills’ relegation, he performed solidly throughout his debut season and was handed the number-one jersey ahead of their League Two campaign in 2008/09.
