One of the few players not to have joined non-league maestro Mark Stimson at the Priestfield Stadium, King actually cost £200,000 from Barnet
Versatile defender King cost the Gills £200,000 from Barnet in summer 2007, shortly after he had won the Bees’ player of the year award.
Initially signed as a left-back from home-town club Oxford in July 2003, King was transformed into a solid central defender at Underhill and left having made over 150 first-team appearances for the club, helping them regain their Football League status with the Conference title in 2005.
He was capped by what is now the England C team during his schooling in non-league, representing his country on three occasions and netting on his international debut against Italy in 2005.
