Kalou is a versatile forward and perfect for Jose Mourinho's old system. Quite how Phil Scolari will deploy him remains to be seen
Comfortable on either flank or in a central attacking position, the Ivory Coast international is one of the most adaptable members of the Chelsea squad.
He signed for Chelsea from Feyenoord for £8m in 2006, and his jet-propelled acceleration, nimble footwork and eye for goal made an instant impression on then-manager Jose Mourinho.
Though not the most elegant of players, he is usually effective as 11 goals in 33 starts in 2007/08 demonstrated. Between 2005 and 2006, Kalou made several bids to become a Dutch national in an attempt to play for the Oranje, but despite the high-profile support of Marco van Basten and Johan Cruyff, his application was rejected, and in February 2007, he made his debut for the country of his birth in a friendly against Guinea.
