Failed to the cut the mustard in the Premier League, but will prove a dangerous frontman in the Championship killing fields
Vine worked his way through the junior ranks at Portsmouth, making his first-team debut against Sheffield United in December 2000.
Sent on loan to Brentford for the 2002/03 season, he netted on his debut and went on to score 13 goals in 41 starts for the Bees.
He then had a less successful 2003/04 season with Colchester before spending his third campaign running on loan, this time at Luton Town.
At Kenilworth Road his pace was utilised as much out wide as in attack and he was dubbed ‘King of the Assists’.
After signing a permanent deal for £250,000 in July 2005, he netted 22 goals in 57 appearances, prompting then-Birmingham boss Steve Bruce to splash out £2.5m in January 2007.
But unable to make an impact for the Blues in either the Championship or the Premier League, Vine switched to Rangers in October 2007 on loan, prior to a £1m transfer three months later.
