Santa Cruz will be hoping that he can hit the same heights he did the last time he played under Mark Hughes...
The Paraguay international made his name in the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich and after an inauspicious start, he found his stride and went on to hit 38 goals in eight seasons with the club.
Hardly prolific, it was his aerial power and fine hold-up play which prompted then Blackburn boss Mark Hughes to splash out £3.5m for his services in the summer of 2007-08, but he went on to add the cutting edge in front of goal at Rovers that had been absent from his career before.
His first goal came after just three touches of his first game – against Middlesbrough in August 2007 – and went on to score 19 league goals that season.
With Hughes departing for Eastlands in the summer of 2008, and Santa Cruz being tipped to follow him, the Paraguayan seemed to take his eye off the ball in 2008/09, with new Rovers boss Sam Allardyce implying the striker was trying to engineer a move away from the club.
In the end he ended up getting a move, and indeed it was to team up once again with Hughes at Manchester City, where he'll be hoping to recreate the goal scoring feats he achieved during his first spell under the Welshman.
