Gregor Raziak-like forward who thrives in the Championship but has never done it in the top-flight, back where he belongs
Zambian-born ‘Earnie’ fairly rocketed on to the scene with Cardiff City, where his quick feet, pace and finishing ability made him one of the most sought-after strikers in Britain. Having helped the Bluebirds up the leagues and into the second tier, he left the club in 2004 with an impressive record of 85 goals in 178 appearances.
A £3m move to Premier League West Brom gave Earnshaw the opportunity to test himself on a bigger stage, but he was unable to establish himself in the starting line-up and was used mainly as an impact player from the bench.
Nevertheless he managed 12 goals in 43 appearances for the club before joining Norwich City in January 2006. Back in the Championship, he rediscovered his former glories, netting 27 times in less than 18 months at the club but a second Premier League chance, this time with new boys Derby 2007/08, ended in similar disappointment after just seven starts and one goal. He switched to the Rams arch-rivals Forest in the summer of 2008.
