Stands at the heart of the Wednesday defence like a majestic oak tree. Maturity earned him the Owls captaincy
Despite his relative youth, Wood is the longest-serving player in the Owls squad, having moved through the ranks to sign professional terms in 2003.
He capped a superb first full game for the club in April of that year with a goal against Burnley and went on to form an impressive partnership with Graham Coughlan at the centre of defence, helping the club to promotion to the Championship.
A towering defender, at 6ft 3in Wood is dominant in his own box, but lacks bite in the opposition area, having netted just six goals by the end of the 2007-08 campaign.
Strong in the tackle and good at marshalling his troops, groin problems interrupted his 2006/07 season but he fought back to win the Wednesday captaincy.
