Defender

Returning to the club he left for Sheffield United as a teenager, Jagielka has silenced his critics and won an England cap in the process.

The wheel turned full circle for Manchester-born Jagielka when he left Sheffield United to join Everton in July 2007 – he was back at the club he left for Bramall Lane as a teenager.

Though the £4 million required to buy him back seems steep with that knowledge in mind, his performances have been well worth the outlay.

Happy in midfield, defence – or even as an emergency goalkeeper with the Blades, where he was voted Championship Player of the Season in 2006 – Jagielka looks at home on the big stage and was blooded by England boss Fabio Capello in the end-of-season tour against Trinidad and Tobago.

tenacious defender, terrific workrate, influential in the many clean sheets kept by everton, good with head, tackling, good shot on goal too, leadership qualities, compared to john terry, should play for england soon after returning from injuring

Quality. Reliable. Solid. Great in the air and gets in those important tackles. Works Hard-Everton's best player 08/09. It's cruel that such a freaky knee ligament injury has robbed him of a place in the FA Cup final. Deserves it so much.

Quality player, should be a starter for england imo, Spain isn't a great team to play against in your full debut.
