Returning to the club he left for Sheffield United as a teenager, Jagielka has silenced his critics and won an England cap in the process.
The wheel turned full circle for Manchester-born Jagielka when he left Sheffield United to join Everton in July 2007 – he was back at the club he left for Bramall Lane as a teenager.
Though the £4 million required to buy him back seems steep with that knowledge in mind, his performances have been well worth the outlay.
Happy in midfield, defence – or even as an emergency goalkeeper with the Blades, where he was voted Championship Player of the Season in 2006 – Jagielka looks at home on the big stage and was blooded by England boss Fabio Capello in the end-of-season tour against Trinidad and Tobago.
