The much-maligned Swiss centreback has endured some torrid stick from pundits and fans alike, but remains highly rated in his homeland...
The big centre-half was hailed by some in the Swiss media as ‘the new Tony Adams’ when he signed from Servette in 2003. Similar to the former Gunners’ skipper in build and no-nonsense approach, that is where the comparisons end as Senderos has struggled to command a regular place in the side ahead of Kolo Toure, William Gallas and, previously, Sol Campbell.
Fairly or not, Senderos is considered prone to making high-profile clangers, and he was at fault for two of the goals as Liverpool knocked Arsenal out of 2007/08’s Champions League quarter-final at Anfield.
