Paul Scharner arrived in Wigan as a relative unknown from Norwegian club SK Brann during the January 2006 transfer window for £2.5 million.
Since then the Austria international has been a revelation for the Latics, either at centre-back – his preferred position – or in the midfield holding role, the position in which he started his career.
