The much-maligned England keeper fell out of favour for club and country in 2007/08, now he must prove he can bounce back
Joined Spurs from Leeds United in 2004 for the paltry sum of £1.5m. Two solid seasons followed, during which he helped Spurs back into Europe in 2005/06 and earned himself the job as England’s first choice keeper ahead of David James.
But his assured performances began to waver at the back end of 2006 after a number of high-profile gaffes for both club and country, most notably an ‘air-kick’ during England’s 2-0 defeat to Croatia in a Euro 2008 qualifier that resulted in an own goal and national ridicule.
While no longer an automatic choice for either club or country, Robinson’s quick reflexes and excellent distribution still make him one of England’s top keepers.
