The versatile Montgomery has been an understated and underrated performer at Bramall Lane over the alst few years
Montgomery came through the ranks at Bramall Lane, making his debut in October 2000 and quickly winning over the Blades fans with his all-action midfield displays and tenacity in the tackle.
Although he prefers to operate in central midfield, he has also operated on the flanks, at right-back or as a man-marker, but always gives his all to the cause. Montgomery’s form as United won promotion to the Premier League in 2006 earned him a call up to the Scotland ‘futures’ side that season, which came on the back of two U21 caps in 2003.
He was runner-up to Phil Jagielka in the Player of the Year awards that top-flight season and continues to show consistency, even though his appearances have since been punctuated by injury.
