No-nonsense midfielder with proven Premier League experience. Equally at home in defence as he is in midfield
An industrious, hard-working midfielder who breaks play up as well as getting forward where possible, Leigertwood started his career at Wimbledon, making his debut at the end of the 2001/02 season against Barnsley.
With the Dons’ struggling financially, he was allowed to join Crystal Palace for £155,000 in January 2004, becoming Iain Dowie’s first signing for the club.
He helped the club to promotion, then featured 23 times in the top-flight where his assuredness under pressure caught the eye of Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock.
Signed in July 2006 for £600,000, he featured at the heart of the defence for the Blades before reverting to central midfield following his move to Rangers for £900,000 in August 2007.
