An experienced head up front – and a long way up, 6ft 5in above his boots – enjoying his belated introduction to league football
Experienced target man McNeil is one of the few older players left at Edgeley Park under Jim Gannon’s youth-promoting regime.
McNeil, at 6ft 5in one of the tallest players to play for County, has the hunger that Gannon loves because he spent the majority of his career playing in non-league. He represented Stalybridge, Runcorn and Hyde before being handed a chance by County’s near-neighbours Macclesfield in June 2006.
McNeil spent a season at Moss Rose before being snapped up by Gannon the following summer. Despite having his appearances limited by injuries, made a playing return in the club’s 2007/08 promotion via the play-offs.
