Having usurped Jens Lehmann at The Emirates, Almunia has proven at least some of his doubters wrong with some assured displays
Following high-profile clangers from Jens Lehmann against Fulham and Blackburn, Almunia was handed the number one jersey at the start of 2007-08 and as the side cemented their place at the top of the table, few questioned the former Celta Vigo player’s ability.
His position was assured after he saved a penalty against Robbie Keane in the win against Spurs in December, but as the season began to disintegrate, the doubts returned.
While there are no issues with his shot-stopping, there are question-marks over Almunia’s presence and command of his box.
Hardly the biggest keeper in the Premier League, his place remains open to conjecture.
