Saha has undoubted talent, but his injury record has prevented him from living up to his billing
A product of the FC Metz youth academy, Louis Saha failed to establish himself as a regular in the French clubs first team, instead opting to go on loan to Newcastle in the hope of making a name for himself.
Saha spent the second half of the 1998/99 season at St James Park but didn’t have the desired impact, scoring just twice in a dozen games.
Saha returned to France for 1999/00, but despite an indifferent season was snapped up by big-spending Fulham, for whom he smashed in 27 league goals in his debut season, helping the side earn promotion to the Premiership.
His next two seasons were far more modest, with the step up to the Premiership limiting Saha to 13 goals in two seasons before he started 2003/04 with a bang, scoring 13 by the turn of the year.
This form alerted Sir Alex Ferguson and Saha moved north for £12.8 million in the January transfer window, scoring seven goals in twelve matches in his first season at Old Trafford.
Much frustration and pain followed, with a seemingly never ending string of injuries preventing Saha from ever really cementing a place in the Red Devils’ side.
