Former Portsmouth player of the year deemed surplus to requirements by Harry. Has played across the back for the Potters
A product of the Portsmouth youth system, Buxton broke into the first team at Pompey as a teenager, and was voted fans’ Player of the Year in 2001-02, but his hopes of further progress were scuppered by the arrival of Harry Redknapp on one of his spending sprees.
Since signing for Stoke City in 2004, he has featured not just in his preferred role at right-back, but also at centre-half and left-back.
A serious back injury sidelined him for most of the 2006-07 season and since returning to the squad he has struggled re-establish himself as a starter.
