Spurs have a history of injury-prone players, and none has been more missed when absent than their current captain and defensive lynchpin
The Tottenham captain is the club’s longest-serving player, having joined as a trainee in 1997.
During that time, he has developed into one of the Premier League’s most accomplished centre-backs, equally at ease bringing the ball out of defence or marshalling the back-line.
If only he weren’t so injury prone.
Former boss Martin Jol described the 6ft 2in centre-back as “Tottenham’s most important player”, an assessment borne out of the fact that Spurs always look shaky without King’s calming influence at the back.
Injuries limited the player from Bow to 10 appearances in 2007/08, but during his time in the side, the Lilywhites defeated Arsenal and Chelsea on their way to Carling Cup victory at Wembley.
