Wide midfield, in the middle, up front, left-back: it's all in a day's work for the Preston-born 'Zinedine Kilbane'
A regular in the Ireland national team for over a decade, and known to Irish fans as ‘Zinedine Kilbane’, the likeable utility man started out at local club Preston.
He enjoyed successful periods with West Brom, Sunderland and Everton, where he was highly prized by his old Preston boss David Moyes for his adaptability. Nominally a left-sided midfielder, he has played all along the middle line and even off the main striker.
Since joining Wigan in 2006, he has often found himself asked to drop back into the left-back position. He has established himself as a firm favourite among the Latics’ supporters, being voted the fans’ Player Of The Season in 2007-08.
After struggling to find his way in to the side at the start of the 2008/2009 season, Kilbane joined Hull City for an undisclosed fee during the 2009 winter transfer window.
