Country-mate of Blackpool's owner has earned himself a reputation for tough tackling. Stood by Blackpool despite interest from bigger clubs
The Latvian international defender arrived at Blackpool in January 2007, having won the championship with Ventspils in his homeland.
With his power, height and all-action displays, he emerged as an immense force in the tackle and also at set-pieces as the Seasiders clinched promotion at the end of that season. He continued to impress in his first full Championship season, where he netted seven goals – form which activated a clause in his contract guaranteeing a second season.
After winning the Seasiders 2007-08 Player of the Year award, he found himself linked with moves to Glasgow Rangers, Crystal Palace and Watford but pledged his future to Blackpool.
