Midfielder

A former Barcelona youth player, Gomez joined the Spanish contingent at Swansea in June 2008 on loan from La Liga side Espanyol.

A playmaking midfielder with a cultured left foot, he made just three appearances for the Catalan capital's 'other' club in the Primera Division in 2007/08 but starred in the club’s B side, netting 10 goals from midfield. According to his boss Roberto Martinez, Gomez has good close control, technical ability and simply never gives the ball away.

He arrived at the club in a joint swoop alongside striker Gorka Pintado.

Silky smooth on the ball in midfield a dictator of play, like a Xabi Alonso might see him at Liverpool in the future Spanish connections and all that.

Looks good. Seems to know where the net is. Has one or two nice passes and looks fairly skillful. Maybe he needs to get in and help out in a more defensive role when needed, help out Brownie in midfield.

A talented player. He has a good range of passing, is very creative, has a deft touch, is very skillful and is also dangerous shooting from range. He adds finesse and skill to any midfield, but I am not totally convinced by him. He has a fantastic left foot but is quite fragile and is not strong enough to deal with stronger defenders.

I'm still not convinced by Gomez.

I know he pops up with the goal, and has flashes of absolute class, but whenever I see him he's the midfielder that gives the ball away most. He doesn't concentrate for the whole match.

However, he certainly has something about him, and is different to most Championship midfielders.
