Despite his tender age, Shelvey has already starred in Charlton's first team and has captained England to Victory Shield glory
In making his Addicks debut against Barnsley in April 2008 aged 16 years and 59 days, Shelvey became the club’s youngest ever player, beating the record previously held by Paul Konchesky.
A cavalier box-to-box midfielder, big things are expected of Shelvey at the Valley, not least after he starred in the Addicks’ 4-1 win over Coventry on the last day on 2007/08.
Having impressed for England’s under-16 side in the 2007 Victory Shield, the midfielder went on to play in all four games of the teams victory in the Montaigu under-16 tournament, scoring from the spot in the final victory over France.
