Forget that rainy night at Wembley against Croatia, the Toffees 2007/08 is one classy defender
‘Mr Consistency’, Birmingham-born Lescott’s speedy, perceptive performances at centre-half or left-back have made him a firm Goodison favourite and earned him five England caps into the bargain. Not bad for someone who thought about quitting the game in his teens because of the commitment required!
Lescott, who helped Wolves win promotion to the top flight in 2002/03, proved an instant hit on Merseyside after an initial £2 million move in August 2006. Ever-present in 2006/07, he topped the club’s Players’ Player of the Year poll in his first two seasons and an impressive 10 goals secured him the fans’ gong in 2007/08.
