Ticks all the boxes for an Arsenal player and will aim to dislodge Gallas or Toure at the heart of the Gunners’ defence
The ubiquitous Arsenal scouting network managed to pick up another young gem in Djourou. The Ivory Coast-born youngster signed for the Gunners from Swiss second division side Etoile-Carouge FC.
Djourou grew up in Switzerland and impressed at the European U19 Championship in his adopted homeland.
He has since gone on to win 17 caps for the senior side, scoring one goal in the process.
Djourou, who can operate in midfield or defence, appeared at the 2006 World Cup and was in Switzerland’s Euro 2008 squad.
But while his international career has blossomed he is still waiting for his Arsenal career to really take off.
Ahead of the 2008-09 campaign he had only made 30 Premier League appearances for the Gunners, with a loan spell at Birmingham City in 2007 sandwiched in between.
Versatile, athletic and technically gifted, Djourou has all the attributes to develop into a top class player.
