He's happy on the left of defence or in the middle and is now hoping to show his skills at League One Brighton.
The man known to his mum as James McNulty arrived at Edgeley Park on a free transfer in January 2008, having rejected a new contract with League Two Macclesfield, and played a key role in the club’s final promotion push.
The Liverpool-born left-back, who can also play in the middle of defence, began his career as reserve-team captain at Wrexham and spent brief spells at Welsh League clubs Bangor and Caernarfon before finally being handed his chance by Macclesfield. He made more than 40 appearances for the struggling Silkmen, despite breaking a leg after only four months, before breaking ranks to move across Cheshire.
McNulty made his County debut in a 2-0 win over Accrington shortly after completing his move to the club and was a member of the Stockport starting XI for their Wembley play-off win over Rochdale.
Jim McNulty moved from Stockport to Brighton in the 2009 winter transfer window for £150,000.
