The Londoner came through the ranks at City and made his first-team breakthough in 2006-07, where a chipped goal against Chesterfield earned particular praise.
He spent much of 2007-08 on loan at Cheltenham Town, then Tranmere Rovers, where he was a big success and scored a fine individual goal against Leeds United.
