The flying postman used to be the best crosser in non-league - and he can sure deliver a devastating parcel from long range
Born in Middlesbrough, former postman Smith began his career with Bishop Auckland and took his first steps in league football when he signed for Bolton Wanderers in August 2000.
His first team opportunities were limited at the Reebook, playing just eight times for the Trotters and was loaned out to Macclesfield, Scunthorpe, Rochdale and Preston before signing for Port Vale on a free transfer in June 2004.
A strong, imposing left-sided midfielder, Smith is known for his powerful long-range shooting and after notching up his century of appearances for Port Vale, he moved to Carlisle for £60,000 in January 2007, singing a two-and-a-half year deal.
