Wayne who? If Vaughan can stay injury free he has the arsenal to follow in the footsteps of a certain teenage prodigy now at Manchester United
Everton’s – and the Premier League’s – youngest goalscorer (just 16 years and 271 days when he netted against Crystal Palace in April 2005), Vaughan will be desperate for an injury-free 2008/09.
The robust and nippy Birmingham-born striker, who has been with the club since he was nine, missed all of the season following his breakthrough with cartilage problems and though he returned to win the Toffees’ Young Player of the Year award in 2006/07, has since suffered further knee problems and a dislocated shoulder.
A committed performer, he remains young enough and good enough to turn his fortunes around.
