Although having missed the vast majority of Chesterfield 2007/08 season, due to a badly broken nose, Jack Lester had previously proved that he deserved his place in the club
An astonishing 2007/08 for the former Nottingham Forest hit-man saw him bag 27 goals in all competitions for the Spireites – earning him the PFA League Two Player of the Year gong – with his 20th of the campaign (and 100th of his career) coming as early as January in a televised league fixture against Hereford. Once a £300,000 purchase by David Platt for Forest, the former Grimsby trainee found the net 34 times in two spells at the City Ground.
However, injuries have blighted Lester’s career: damaged knee ligaments once kept the striker out of the Forest line-up for nine-months, whilst a badly broken nose sustained against Accrington in 2007/08 ruled him out of the Chesterfield’s run-in, arguably costing the club a play-off place.
