Edinburgh-born Black played for Hearts' youth sides and was a trainee at Blackburn Rovers before joining Inverness on a free transfer in the summer of 2004 and becoming a regular in the Caley midfield.
However, he had a high-profile falling out with boss Craig Brewster during the 2007/08 season. A no-nonsense kind of player, he was ordered to train with the club’s under-19 side after a bust-up during a team meeting, sparking rumours that he could soon be purchasing a one-way ticket out of the Highlands.
