Sunday, Monday, Habib Beye! Tuesday, Wednesday, Habib Beye! Thursday, Friday, Habib Beye... Great chant, reminds us of Tom Bosley
If it’s true that Newcastle fans (and managers!) value attack above defence, it says much for the quality of Beye that he managed to walk off with the Supporters’ Player Of The Year award after a 2007/08 season which saw the Magpies’ defence concede the highest number of goals in 17 years.
The attacking right-back was born in France but represents Senegal, coming to prominence during their run to the 2002 World Cup quarter-finals; that prompted a move from Strasbourg to Marseille, and Sam Allardyce took him to St James’ Park for a “bargain” £2m in the closing minutes of the summer 2007 transfer window.
