Coughlan is an uncompromising force at the centre of the Rotherham defence and a serious aerial threat in attack
Vastly experienced central defender Coughlan began his career playing for Cherry Orchard and Bray Wanderers in his native Ireland, before being signed by Premier League champions Blackburn in 1995.
He failed to make a first-team appearance for Ray Harford’s side but, after a spell in Scotland with Livingston, Coughlan went on to win countless awards as a mainstay for Plymouth over four seasons, making in excess of 170 league starts and netting an impressive 25 goals.
A hard-hitting presence at the heart of the back four, Coughlan spent two years at Sheffield Wednesday prior to joining the Millers in July 2007, and missed just the one of Rotherham’s 46 league fixtures in his debut campaign for the club.
