The veteran right-back continues to maintain the high level of consistency for which he has become renowned throughout his 18-year career.
Unable to get up and down the flanks as much these days, Alexander’s positional sense and commitment make up for any deficiencies. He started his career with Scunthorpe United and made over 200 appearances before joining Luton Town for £100,000 in 1995.
But it was during his eight years at Preston that Alexander emerged as one of the best full-backs outside of the top-flight and a dead-ball specialist in the process. A proficient penalty taker, he netted an impressive 52 goals in 352 appearances at Deepdale before switching to Turf Moor in August 2007.
