Former Watford captain plays the holding role in QPR's engine room. A solid and reliable midfield general
A trainee with Wolves, Mahon made the breakthrough with Hereford United, featuring in every game of the 1997/98 season, and catching the eye of Brentford manager Ray Lewington who splashed out £50,000 to take him to Griffin Park.
A highly-competitive central midfielder with a good engine and the ability to link defence with attack, was snapped up by Watford in March 2002, his value having risen to £150,000.
The arrival of manager Aidy Boothroyd saw Mahon named club captain and his combative nature was crucial to Watford’s promotion to the Premier League in 2005/06.
Having played throughout that solitary season in the top flight, in December 2007 it was announced that Mahon’s contract would not be renewed and he joined Rangers on loan, with the deal made permanent the following month.
