O'neil will be hoping to hit the form shown in his Pompey days, and hopefully the goalscoring capabilities too...
The Bromley-born midfielder was signed by Gareth Southgate for a fee thought to be in the region of £5m in the summer of 2007 after O’Neil had fallen down the pecking order in an increasingly congested Portsmouth midfield.
The energetic former England under-21 captain had previously spent his entire career on the south coast and played a crucial role in helping Pompey establish themselves in the Premier League.
O’Neil has since proved an invaluable acquisition at The Riverside, with his lively displays on the right hand side of Boro’s midfield providing Southgate’s side with a much-needed cutting edge.
