Veteran midfielder popular with the Loftus Road faithful. His experience will be invaluable to the younger players
Much travelled Ainsworth had spells with Preston, Cambridge and Lincoln City before catching the eye at Port Vale, where he netted 10 goals in 55 games, impressing with his pace and trickery on the left flank.
A standout player in the lower leagues, he was snapped up by Wimbledon for £2m in 1998 but in five years at the Dons he never managed to hold down a regular place making just 21 league starts.
After loan spells at Preston and Walsall, he signed for Cardiff City for a nominal fee in March 2003 but was allowed to join Rangers for free just three months later.
At Loftus Road, he finally found his feet again, his hard work, leadership, assists and goals earning him the club captaincy and the adoration of the fans.
With age catching up on him, Ainsworth did not make as many appearances in the 2007/08 season as he would have liked, but he remains an important player.
