Adebayor took a while to make his mark at Arsenal, and will be hoping to settle more quickly at Manchester City...
Arrived in England as a relative unknown from Monaco in 2006, Adebayor spent his first season at Arsenal in a master-and-servant role alongside Thierry Henry - so when the Frenchman said ‘au revoir’ and hot-footed it off to Barcelona last summer, the big Togo striker was ready to step into the breach.
Like Henry, Adebayor possesses bags of pace and a similar clinical way of finishing. His height also made him very difficult to mark and a good outlet when the Gunners decided, on that rare occasion, to go route one. His 30 goals in 2007/08 made the world of football sit up and take notice, and for a while it looked like a move to Italy was on the card, before the Togolese, somewhat reluctantly, opted to stay in N5.
His relationship with the fans tainted, Adebayor began to labour infront of goal and, despite helping the Gunners to the Champions League semifinals and fourth place in the Premier League in 2008/09, Adebayor set sail for pastures new in the summer of 2009, with Eastlands his surprise destination.
The doubters are already claiming he moved purely for the cash, and he'll be keen to prove them wrong, and quickly too.
