Tough-tackling defensive midfielder has overcome frustration and virus to make his mark on Stockport history
Blizzard signed a two-year deal with Stockport in the summer of 2007 after spending part of the 2006/07 season on loan from Watford.
The tough-tackling defensive midfielder spent six largely frustrating years on the fringe of the Hornets' squad, scoring on his debut for the club in 2-1 home defeat against Norwich in April 2004 but finding first-team opportunities at a premium – not helped by contracting the Epstein-Barr virus in 2005. The nearest he got to the first team thereafter was benchwarming as a half-fit emergency substitute goalkeeper during an injury crisis.
Upon regaining full fitness in early 2007 he went on loan, firstly to Edgeley Park and then to MK Dons. In May 2007, he and the Dons reached verbal agreement on a permanent contract, but by August he had left the club by mutual consdent. Their loss was County’s gain as Blizzard started triumphant 2007/08 campaign and added bite to the club’s midfield whenever called upon by Gannon.
