Mocked by fans of other clubs due to his less than average scoring rate, but a cult hero at his club due to his tireless work rate
Despite his rather ordinary goal ratio in the Premier League, Kuyt has won admirers at Anfield thanks to his work-rate, pace, positive attitude, and versatility.
Kuyt cut his teeth at FC Utrecht in Holland, playing mainly as a winger. Feyernoord poached him in 2003, and he went on to score 71 goals in 101 games, winning himself international recognition in the process.
He joined Liverpool in summer 2006 for around £10m, and has been a favourite of manager Benitez’s ever since. Some fans will need to see more goals from Kuyt until they’re convinced, but they know he’ll always work his socks off.
