Midfielder

Zokora really hasn't been the midfield enforcer Spurs fans were hoping and preying for, but he tries, bless him. Just don't ask him to shoot...

The former St Etienne player signed in 2006 for £8.6m and immediately made himself popular with fans by claiming to have chosen Spurs over Arsenal.

While the Gunners interest was never confirmed, Zokora’s initial displays – combining destructive midfield play with a lightning-quick breaks from deep in his own half – highlighted why a number of clubs had expressed an interest in the Ivory Coast international, a star of the 2006 World Cup.

Since then, however, Zokora has too often shown himself to be lax in possession and reckless in the tackle, but as Tottenham’s only genuine defensive midfielder, he’s a valuable asset to the squad.

An athlete but not a footballer. Quick, powerful and can run all day but basics of the game like short passing, positioning and the like are conspicuous by their absence. Offers only one real positive to the team - his occasional fast-paced long dribbles out of his own half into the opponents final third instigating counter attacks, however due to his technical ineptitude and poor decision making he tends to fluff his lines with the final pass. At least it gives the defence a bit of relief for 30 seconds. Intended to be our Defensive Midfielder, he is too indisciplined and simply doesn't win anywhere near enough ball to play that role for what is hopefully a top half/UEFA Cup qualifying Premiership club. He will have to be replaced if Spurs are serious about their ambitions.

To be honest, One of Spurs' better players this season along with Woodgate.
