The Brazilian playmaker joined Arsenal from Sao Paulo for £3.4m in August 2006, but found it difficult to break up the established central midfield triumvirate of Fabregas-Flamini-Gilberto Silva. Flamini’s departure to Milan in the summer of 2008 offered him an opening.
Used, primarily, as a Carling Cup performer Denilson has shown flashes of his potential when given his opportunity, with some crisp passing, energy and a willingness to get stuck in to tackles marking him out as a potential regular.
Awarded a new long-term contract midway through the 2007-08 campaign, he is a member of Brazil’s national squad.
