Local lad who returned to boyhood club and scored the goal that took them into the Premier League at the age of 39. Simply put - a legend
How do you like your fairy tales? Released as a teenager by his hometown club of Hull, Windass drifted into non-league before rejoining the Tigers from North Ferriby in October 1991.
Fifty-seven goals and 176 League games later he moved to Aberdeen for £700,000 in December 2005. It was the start of a peripatetic career that took in spells with Oxford, Bradford City (twice), Middlesbrough and both Sheffield clubs before a long-awaited return to Hull, initially on loan, in January 2007.
Having scored the goals to keep Hull up in 2006/07, the by then 39-year-old netted the Wembley winner as Hull won the Championship play-off the following season.
